WATCH: Migrants jump into river as thousands crowd Mexico-Guatemala border crossing bridge

Thousands of Honduran migrants traveling in a mass caravan arrived at the Guatemalan border with Mexico on Friday, Oct. 19, breaking through the border fence and rushing into Mexico, reports said.

As police with riot shields stood on the Mexican side of the border bridge, about 50 migrants managed to push their way through before the police officers fired tear gas and pepper spray at them, and the rest retreated, the Associated Press reported.

Mexican authorities later opened the gates and allowed about 15 women and children through, but thousands were still waiting to cross the border, CNN reported.

Migrants later formed lines stretching across the bridge. At least a dozen of them jumped off the bridge into the Suchiate River.

The so-called Caravan of Migrants’ final destination is the United States, in defiance of President Donald Trump’s intention to stop aid to the countries that let them pass through.

The Facebook Live video, shared on Oct. 19, shows Mexican police in riot gear and migrants crowding the border crossing between Ciudad Tecun Uman, in Guatemala, and Ciudad Hidalgo, in Mexico’s Chiapas state. JB
