PNP to expedite processing of permits to carry guns for judges

A memorandum of agreement (MOA) has been signed by the Philippine National Police (PNP) with the Office of the Court Administrator to expedite the processing of applications for permits to carry firearms outside of residence (PTCFORs) filed by judges.

According to Director General Oscar Albayalde, PNP chief, the MOA was signed during the national summit of judges held in Tagaytay City from Wednesday to Friday.

“‘Yan po kasi ay expired noon at ni-renew lang natin at nagdagdag lang tayo ng konting provision kung saan mapapabilis ang pagkuha ng [License to Own and Possess Firearms], ‘yung lisensiya ng pagkuha ng baril, at ‘yung pagbigay sa kanila ng Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence,” Albayalde said in an interview over dzBB.

Albayalde said the signing of the MOA was to assure the safety of the country’s judges in the wake of the recent murder of  Ozamiz City Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Edmundo Pintac.

Pintac was gunned down by by still unidentified assailants in Ozamiz on Monday as he was heading home.

Albayalde added that the PNP also brought a caravan to the summit where the judges submitted their applications for PTCFORs.

“Kami na po ang nagpunta sa kanila, gumawa ng caravan kaya doon mismo sa summit na ‘yon nagkaroon ng caravan at kami na po ang nag-process sa kanila para hindi na po sila pupunta personally sa Camp Crame,” Albayalde said. /muf
