Binay siblings rivalry: Parents would rather have them quit politics

If their parents had their way, the Binay siblings should just either drop their mayoralty bid in Makati City or quit from politics altogether.

On Thursday, former Makati Mayor JunJun Binay revealed how their parents — former Vice President Jejomar Binay and wife, Elenita, who also became a mayor of the city — felt about him and his sister, incumbent mayor Abigail  “Abby” Binay, running against each other in the 2019 elections.

Both JunJun and Abby have filed their certificates of candidacy for the post in Makati.

“I just talked to her the other day, it was a lengthy discussion. And if she would have it her way, gusto n’ya wala nang kakandidato sa aming magkakapatid,” he said of her mother in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel.

“Even my father, actually parang gusto nya tigilan na lahat ‘yang pulitika na ‘yan because it’s very divisive. Nakita naman natin, our family is divided right now over this issue of who should run for mayor,” he added.

But JunJun noted they are not the only family experiencing these kind of issues among  siblings.

Like any other ordinary family, he said it is just but normal for them to have siblings  rivalry.

Asked who he thinks is the favorite of his father, JunJun initially refused to answer the question.

But when pressed further, the former mayor conceded that his sister, Abby, may be their father’s favorite.

“Maybe ang paborito n’ya, I’d think siguro si Abby because you know naging lawyer,” JunJun said.

“But my father has been very fair to us. ‘Yun naman ang masasabi ko,” he added.

Their father accompanied Abby when she filed her candidacy for mayor on Wednesday.

JunJun, on other hand, accompanied his eldest sister, Senator Nancy Binay, when she filed her candidacy for another term in the Senate.

Their father, meanwhile, is seeking a seat in the House of Representatives. /kga
