Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos is eyeing a higher government post, as she filed on Tuesday her certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator in next year’s polls.

Imee was joined by her mother Ilocos Norte Second District Rep. Imelda Marcos and her brother former-Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) main office in Intramuros.

Imee, daughter of late strongman and former President Ferdinand Marcos, said she is not worried that the alleged human rights violations committed by his father during the Martial law will affect her candidacy.

“Kung worry, wala sana ako rito. Palagay ko may pagbabago na rin ang pag-unawa ng nakalipas (If I worry, I won’t be here. I think there is a change in the understanding of the past), she said in a press briefing.

She said she thinks the country is prepared to listen to their “side of the story.”

If elected senator, she said she will push for lower prices of goods amid the soaring inflation rate in the country, citing that as governor, she understands the situation of locals in the country.

She also said that she would not go against the Duterte administration, but will instead offer constructive criticism.

Imelda, meanwhile, will reportedly file on Wednesday her candidacy to replace Imee as governor. /cbb /muf
