Former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay announced Friday his intention to run for a Senate seat in the 2019 midterm elections.

In his Twitter post, Hilbay said he will run for Senate as a response to the challenge of serving the country and to defend democracy.

He did not say yet when he plans to file his certificate of candidacy (COC) at the Commission on Elections in Intramuros, Manila.

The filing of COC will end by October 17. /kga
