Instead of running against him, former Makati City mayor Jejomar “Junjun” Binay Jr. thinks it is better for his sister, incumbent Makati Mayor Abigail “Abby” Binay to just return to Congress.

After all, Junjun believes his sister could easily regain her post in Congress. Abby served as Makati City 2nd District rep. from 2007 to 2016.

“Dapat bumalik na lang sister ko sa Congress kasi for me her style is more for Congress. Hindi pang-mayor. Mas pang-Congress talaga sister ko,” Junjun said in an interview with Inquirer on Wednesday.

(My sister should go back to Congress. For me her style is more for Congress and not for a mayor. My sister is more for Congress.)

“Easily babalik naman siya dun. Tagal naman na rin siyang naging Congressman dun sa distrito niya,”  he added.

(She will easily retake her post in the Congress. She had been a Congressman for so long in her district.)

Junjun said he has yet to wait for his father, former Vice President Jejomar Binay to help resolve the issue. However, if the problem will not be resolved, he would push through with his plan to run for mayor and file his certificate of candidacy next week.

“Wala pa. I’ll wait for my Dad. We will decide and finalize kung ano magiging detalye nung filing so far it would happen next week if hindi magkakaayos,” he said.

(Not yet. I will wait for my Dad, we will decide and finalize the details of the filing. So far it would happen next week if the issue will not be settled.)

The Binay family said they would try to fix the rift between Abby and Junjun who are now competing for  mayorship of Makati City in the 2019 elections.

Junjun served as Makati City mayor in 2013 but his term was cut short in June 2015 after he was suspended by the Office of the Ombudsman following an investigation into the alleged overpricing of the new Makati Science High School building. The case was dismissed in 2016.

Former Makati Vice Mayor Romulo “Kid” Peña took over as Makati City mayor until 2016 when he lost in the election against Abby Binay.  /muf
