UNA mulls coalition with NPC, LDP

The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) is considering the possibility of forming a coalition with the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NDP) of Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto and the Laban ng Demokratiko Pilipino (LDP) party of Senator Sonny Angara.

UNA president Senator Nancy Binay revealed this on Friday, as she filed her certificate of candidacy at the headquarters of the Commission on Elections in Intramuros, Manila.

“At the moment, wala pa akong nakakausap except for syempre yung mga nakakausap ko sa Senado, katulad ni Senator Sonny Angara. So at the moment, kami ng LDP yung nag-uusap,” Binay told reporters.

(We have not talked with anyone at the moment except for those I speak with at the Senate, like Senator Sonny Angara. Us and the LPD are talking at the moment.)

“Syempre ‘yung SP (Senate President) namin na si Tito Sen ay bahagi ng NPC, so isa din ‘yun sa tinitingnan ng UNA para magkaroon ng coalition,” she also said, referring to Sotto.

(Of course, our Senate President Tito Sen is part of the NPC, so UNA is also looking at forming a coalition with them.)

Binay was asked whether her party is seeking to team up with the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan party chaired by President Rodrigo Duterte or join the opposition in the 2019 elections.

Binay clarified that they have not engaged in formal talks about the possible coalition. She said the senators have been kept busy in the Senate in the past few weeks.

“Doon muna kami nagfo-focus more than the 2019 elections (That’s where we focus for now more than the 2019 elections),” she said.  /muf
