Senator Nancy Binay said that she filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) on a Friday due to sentimental reasons.

“For sentimental reasons, kasi last minute filing ako no’ng 2013, it was on a Friday.  Kaya today, Friday pa rin ang pinili ko […] kumbaga ituloy na lang ‘yong naumpisahan noon.” Binay said before entering the Commission on Elections (Comelec) headquarters in Intramuros, Manila.

(It’s for sentimental reasons because back in 2013, it was a last minute filing and it was on a Friday. So today, I also chose a Friday to file my certificate, like I’m continuing what I’ve started.)

According to her, if elected again, she would continue and improve on the advocacies she is pushing for.

“I guess kung ano ‘yong binigay ko na serbisyo for the past six years ay ipagpapatuloy at siguro ay mas iigihan pa,” she added.

(I guess the kind of service that I’ve been giving for the past six years is what I’ll continue and even make it better.)

Binay also said that she does not mind ranking lower in recent surveys, adding that there is still a long way to go before the 2019 midterm elections.

“Sabi ko nga mahaba pa to eh, six to seven or more months.  Marami pang pagdadaanan,” she noted.

(Like I said, there’s still a long way to go, six to seven or so months. Still have to go through a lot.)

“Basta ang kailangan focus lang, unang-una sa trabaho dahil may trabaho pa kami sa Senado na kailangang tapusin, at siguro mas kailangan pang malaman ng kababayan natin kung ano ‘yung advocacy na i-pupush natin for the next Congress,” she explained.

(I just need to focus, first of all with our work because we still need have work to in the Senate that needs to be done, and it’s important for the public to know the advocacy that we’ll be pushing for the next Congress.)

Binay, daughter of former Vice President Jejomar Binay, won a senatorial seat in 2013.  She is running for her second term under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA). /je
