Man runs amok in Tarlac City, shot dead by cop

TARLAC CITY—- A Tarlac resident was killed by a policeman after he ran amok at Barangay (village) San Roque at 1:05 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 10).

Police said Geffrey Tumamaw Orpilla, 40, grabbed a bolo (machete) used by a coconut vendor and started chasing bystanders in front of a mall. Orpilla then grabbed a 3-year-old boy from his father.

A police officer, PO2 Jaypee Cunanan, arrived at the scene and started negotiating for the child’s release. However, police said Orpilla attacked Cunanan, who then opened fire.

Orpilla was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

“He is not from the city. He lives in Victoria town and apparently left home because he believed something or someone wanted him dead,” said Supt. Joel Mendoza, Tarlac City chief of police. /muf
