North Cotabato village chairman slain in ambush

KABACAN, North Cotabato – An incumbent village chairperson was gunned down in an ambush by still unidentified assailants after he attended the village flag raising ceremonies Monday morning, police said.

Chief Insp. Ronnie Cordero, Kabacan town police chief, said Nestor Ranay, 37, village chairman of Barangay Pisan died while undergoing treatment at a hospital after he was attacked around 9:10 a.m. in his barangay’s Purok Pagkakaisa.

Cordero said Ranay was driving his motorbike heading home from the village hall where he led the regular Monday morning flag raising ceremonies when shot by gunmen riding-in-tandem on a motorbike.

Ranay sustained gunshot wounds in his stomach and shoulder, and was rushed by villagers to the Kabacan Polymedic Hospital.

Cordero said the motive behind the ambush is still unknown since investigation is still ongoing, as of this posting. /kga
