On Oct. 6, 1762, the city of Manila was conquered by the British, starting a two-year period of British rule.

The British army, led by Col. William Draper, arrived in the Philippines in September 1762.

The final siege of the walled city of Intramuros began on Oct. 5 and the Spaniards surrendered the city the next day.
