President Rodrigo Duterte was in Hong Kong Saturday night, his special assistant, Christopher “Bong” Go, confirmed in a text message to INQUIRER.net.
“Opo. Rest,” Go said in his text message.
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea also confirmed the trip to INQUIRER.net.
“Yes, he is in HK with Honeylet, Kitty and Bong Go for a needed weekend break. They will be back tomorrow [Sunday],” Medialdea said.
Go said the President and his family left the country late Friday night and would return to the Philippines on Sunday.
The President went to Hong Kong after admitting that he went to the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan last Wednesday, Oct. 3, to undergo diagnostic tests.
On Friday, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque told reporters that the President’s doctors saw a possible “growth” in his digestive tract, which prompted him to take further tests.
The President raised the possibility that he might have cancer.
“I don’t know where I’m now physically but I have to wait for [the test results]. But I would tell you that if it’s cancer, it’s cancer. And if it’s third stage, no more treatment. I will not prolong my agony in this office or anywhere,” he said in a speech before members of the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association on Thursday night in Malacañang. /atm
