Detained former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. will seek a Senate seat in the 2019 midterm elections.
Former Leyte 1st District representative and Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) president Atty. Martin Romualdez made the announcement in a statement on Friday.
“I am pleased and honored to officially announce the candidacy for the Senate of Sen. Bong Revilla Jr., our party chairman,” Romualdez said.
“This decision was reached after a series of consultations with his family, close friends, constituents and political leaders,” he added.
Romualdez said their party will also support the senatorial candidates to be endorsed by Hugpong ng Pagbabago regional party of presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
Revilla is currently detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame for plunder and graft charges over his involvement in the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or pork barrel scam.
He was implicated along with former Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Juan Ponce Enrile.

Despite this, House Deputy Speaker Prospero Pichay Jr. earlier expressed confidence that Revilla, their party’s “best bet,” would win in the 2019 senatorial race. /muf
