Ex-Baclaran exec killed; gunman bares next target
A former official of Barangay Baclaran, Parañaque City, died in the hospital a day after being shot by a still-unidentified gunman, who was heard revealing his next target before he fled.
Renato Comparativo, 51, succumbed on Wednesday to gunshot wounds in the back at San Juan de Dios Hospital in Pasay City, where he was brought after the attack.
Comparativo, the barangay’s former executive officer, was walking along Bagong Sikat Street, Baclaran, shortly before noon on Tuesday when the pistol-wielding assailant approached and shot him from behind.
A witness to the shooting told police that the gunman, before fleeing on foot, told the fallen victim about his next target: “Isusunod ko ang kapitan mo” (I’ll go after your barangay captain next).
Senior Insp. Jerry Sunga, chief investigator of the Parañaque police, said the investigation was considering whether that threat pertained to the incumbent village chief or the previous one under whose administration Comparativo served. —Matthew Reysio-Cruz
