Typhoon ‘Queenie’ weakens further as it nears exit on Friday

Typhoon “Queenie” (international name: Kong-Rey) continued to weaken as it nears exit from the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Atmospheric Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

In its 5 p.m. update on Wednesday, Pagasa weather specialist Meno Mendoza said ‘Queenie’ is packing maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 205 kph.

As of 4 p.m., the typhoon was spotted 745 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes and was moving northwest at a speed of 15 kph, Mendoza said.

Pagasa said the typhoon will not make a landfall in any part of the country.

Typhoon Queenie is expected to exit PAR on Friday morning, the weather bureau said. /ee
