The decision of controversial Assistant Communications Secretary Mocha Uson to resign from her post came as a surprise, Malacañang said Wednesday.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Uson showed no indication that she’s about to submit her resignation.
“Hindi ko naman po inaasahan ‘yan. Wala naman pong indication talaga na magbibitiw si Secretary Mocha,” Roque told reporters in an interview in Malacañang.
(I was not expecting that. There was no indication that Secretary Mocha was about to resign)
Nonetheless, President Duterte’s spokesperson sent Uson his regards and wished her the best of luck for the future.
“I wish her the best. I will miss her but she did make it clear na ipagpapatuloy po niya ang advocacy, lagot po silang lahat kay Mocha Uson,” he said.
(I wish her the best. I will miss her but she did make it clear that she will be continuing with her advocacy. They should all be wary of Mocha Uson).
Uson announced her resignation during a Senate hearing on Wednesday morning following calls for her to quit amid several blunders committed including a lewd video on federalism.
Uson has claimed that some lawmakers have constantly delayed deliberations on the budget of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO). She said her resignation will allow things to move on.
“Taon-taon ay sinasabihan ako na huwag punahin ang ilang mga mababatas para hindi ipitin ang budget ng PCOO. Nakakagalit man ngunit ganyan ang systema natin sa kasalukuyan. Bulok man ngunit ito kelangang sundin,” she said during the hearing.
(Year after year I am told not to attack some lawmakers for the sake of the PCOO’s budget. It is angering that we have such a system at present. It may be corrupt but we need to follow it).
After attending the hearing, Uson revealed that she is openly considering to run in the 2019 elections. /muf
