Fire hits houses of Kerwin Espinosa’s kin in Cebu

CEBU CITY – The family and relatives of self-confessed drug lord Rolando “Kerwin” Espinosa Jr. lost their homes to a fire that engulfed structures in Sitio Cahipa, Barangay Hipodromo, Cebu City on Thursday afternoon.

They were among the 193 families or 861 individuals from 115 houses who were displaced by the fire that hit the community.

Except for a few clothes, Kerwin’s aunt Emma Espinosa said they were not able to carry their belongings.

“We didn’t expect this blaze to happen,” she said in an interview.

Kerwin, who was born and raised in Cebu City, before they moved to Albuera town in southern Leyte, is currently behind bars pending resolution of the drug charges filed against him in court.

The Espinosas lost all their four homes in Barangay Hipodromo, including their two decades old ancestral house.

Emma said they were nonetheless grateful that no one got hurt.

“We’re happy that all of us are safe despite this tragedy,” she said. /kga
