The Philippine National Police (PNP) brushed aside claims that the Red October ouster plots were just fabricated, noting the “continuing efforts” of the communist rebels to destabilize and overthrow the government.

“Siguro hindi na balita ‘yon, kasi ‘yong CPP-NPA, that’s their eternal, continuing effort to destabilize, undermine, and overthrow the government,” the PNP spokesman, Chief Supt. Benigno Durana, said on Wednesday when asked about allegations that the government would just move the supposed ouster plots if it does not materialize in October.

“And for 50 years, they have been very unsuccessful,” he added of the CPP-NPA or the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army.

According to Durana, rebel groups who look to replace the government were only dreaming, as this was far from reality.

“The political condition now, the political-economic condition is no longer conducive to any destablization or overthrow of the government, eh talagang totoo ‘yong sinabi ni Secretary (Harry) Roque, they’re just continuing their dream dahil it’s a remote possibility,” he added.

President Rodrigo Duterte has mentioned in past occasions that members of the opposition from the Liberal Party and Magdalo faction are teaming with communist rebels to overthrow the government.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations Maj. Gen. Isidro Purisima said that the alliances were made in preparation for a supposed “Red October” plot.

High-ranking members of the Liberal Party including Vice President Leni Robredo and former President Benigno Aquino III as well as Magdalo’s Senator Antonio Trillanes IV have all denied the accusations.

The National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) also brushed off talks of destabilization plots, saying that Duterte and the military are just scaring themselves. /je
