Former Vice President Jejomar Binay will be a “constructive voice” in Congress if elected as Makati’s representative, his spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Joey Salgado, Binay’s spokesperson, said in a statement that if the former vice president is elected, he will point out policies and programs that presently burden Filipinos and will propose solutions to them.

“He intends to support policies and programs that will improve the lives of the poor and the middle class. In the same manner, he will point out policies and programs that could burden our countrymen. But he will also propose solutions,” Salgedo said.

“He does not believe in obstructionist politics, or opposing just for the sake of opposing. The former vice president will be a constructive voice in Congress,” he added.

Salgado confirmed on Monday that Binay will run for Congress in 2019 as representative for the First District of Makati City.

Salgado said that as representative for the city’s First District, Binay will work to ensure that residents continue to receive the “Binay brand of service” in terms of relevant health, education and social services.

Binay served as Vice President under former President Benigno Aquino III’s administration from 2010 to 2016. He was the mayor of Makati for about 20 years since 1986 after being appointed officer-in-charge of Makati by former president Cory Aquino. /jpv
