MABALACAT CITY — “It feels good to be back.”

That’s how housing developer Delfin Lee reacted on Monday when he visited the Xevera housing community here eight years after he was indicted and detained for the P7-billion housing scam which state auditors uncovered in 2010.

Lee, president of Globe Asiatique Realty Holdings Corp., was met by Mayor Crisostomo Garbo and local government employees at the city hall inside Xevera homes.

Lee was released on bail after the Supreme Court downgraded his syndicated estafa case to simple estafa.

“How can I turn my back on my homeowners. I feel that it’s my moral obligation to see them and the changes here (Xevera),” Lee told a crowd that gathered here.

Lee said he had not returned home to his family since he was freed on Thursday.

“I wanted to come here before I go back to my family,” he said.

“They treated me well in jail. I think my fellow inmates are going to miss me,” Lee added.

Elmer Timpug, vice president of Xevera Mabalacat Homeowners Association, said they were delighted to see Lee back in the housing community.

“This is a good opportunity for him (Lee) to address the issues [involving the housing loan mess,” Timpug told the Inquirer. /cbb
