DAVAO CITY — Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, who ranked fifth in Pulse Asia’s list of top senatorial preferences for the 2019 midterm elections, said she wants to stay as mayor of Davao City and has no plans of running for a Senate seat.
Duterte-Carpio has shut down the possibility of a Senate bid, saying she prefers to be re-elected as the city’s local chief executive.
“I am overwhelmed by the trust and confidence. I think our fellow Filipinos are interested in the work that my administration, both now and in 2010, has done in Davao City,” she said.
She added, “If the Dabawenyos will re-elect me, I would like to continue working for Davao City as Mayor.”
The 2019 Pulse Asia’s latest Ulat ng Bayan survey was conducted from September 1 to 7. The survey was based on a sample of 1,800 registered voters 18 years old and above and was released on Saturday, September 22, just weeks before political bets are slated to file their certificates of candidacy for the 2019 midterm polls. /ee
