Martial law anniversary rallies prompt Manila to suspend Friday classes

Manila suspended classes in both public and private schools in the city for Friday because of the expected massive demonstrations to remember the evils of martial law.

Following the advice of the Manila Police District,  Manila City Mayor Joseph Estrada ordered the suspension of classes in all levels on Friday “to ensure the safety and security of the public, especially the students.”

“As a remedial measure to ensure the safety and security of the public, especially the students, the Manila Police District has recommended the suspension of all classes in all levels both in public and private schools in the city,” Estrada said.

This Friday will mark the 46th anniversary of the declaration of martial law in the Philippines.
