The European Union (EU) has expressed its readiness to assist the Philippines in the recovery and relief operations due to the destruction caused by Typhoon “Ompong”, the European Delegation in Manila said.
“The EU is consistently monitoring the situation and stands ready to assist the Filipino people in this difficult time,” the EU Delegation in Manila said in a statement on Sunday.
“The EU Delegation expresses its sincerest sympathies to the victims and to those severely affected by typhoon Ompong,” it added.
“Ompong” was the strongest typhoon to hit the country so far this year. It entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility last Wednesday afternoon and made landfall in Cagayan-Isabela area last Saturday.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council said that almost 600,000 individuals were affected by the typhoon.
