The police chief of Midsayap in North Cotabato and the Station 2 Commander of General Santos City have been sacked following the explosions in the two towns, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Public Information Office said.

PNP said Director General Oscar Albayalde relieved Midsayap’s Supt. Samuel Cadungon and General Santos’ Station Commander Chief Inspector Patrich Elma on Monday.

Cadungon was replaced by Supt. Joan Maganto and Elma by Senior Inspector Davis Dulawan.

On Sunday, eight people were injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) was set off in General Santos. After the incident, another IED exploded in Midsayap.

No casualties were recorded in the latest attack in the Socsargen region. However, at least five were killed in two previous attacks in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat and another 10 in Lamitan, Basilan.   /vvp
