Villar: Two roads to Baguio closed

Motorists going to Baguio can only use Naguilian Road as both Marcos Highway and Kennon Road are closed due to landslides, Secretary Mark Villar of the Department of Public Works and Highways said on Saturday.

According to Villar, a total of 19 sections, including the above-mentioned roads, are not passable after being battered by Typhoon “Ompong” (internationally known as “Mangkhut”).

“As of this hour, in the CAR [Cordillera Administrative Region)] meron po kaming 19 road sections closed,” he said. “Sarado po ang Kennon Road. At this point Marcos Highway, may isang section po sa Marcos Highway ‘yong Tuba section po, closed din po.”

The secretary said that the department’s heavy equipment were now clearing the roads, which might be reopened soon. But he still advised motorists against driving even though the typhoon had moved beyond the country’s western shores.

Villar also said that other closed roads include Benguet-Viscaya Road, Baguio-Bontoc Road, Abra-Ilocos Norte Road, Abra-Ilocos Sur Road, Claveria-Calanasan Road, Pico-Lamtang Road, And Acop-Kapangan Road. /atm
