Palace: No need for addendum to Duterte’s order voiding Trillanes amnesty

There is “no need” to issue an addendum to the Proclamation No. 572 of President Rodrigo Duterte voiding the amnesty of Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV even as the chief executive has pointed out another legal basis for his order.

In two separate interviews, the President said the amnesty granted to Trillanes was invalid because it was signed by then-Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin and not by then-President Benigno Aquino III.

“No need, because now the case is before the Makati courts. The Makati courts will address all issues that may be brought before it,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a Palace briefing on Wednesday.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday referred the petition of Trillanes to the Makati Regional Trial Court as it rejected the senator’s plea to block the implementation of the President’s order voiding his amnesty and ordering his arrest. /atm
