Robredo confident Trillanes can handle case if warrant of arrest issued

NAGA CITY – Opposition Senator Antonio Trillanes IV is prepared in case the judiciary issues the warrant of arrest after Malacañang issued the revocation of the amnesty granted to him, Vice President Leni Robredo said.

“If we look back at the things he (Trillanes) went through, it was all colorful and not easy at all. We know that he can handle himself in situations,” Robredo said in an interview.

Robredo was at the 20th Bisog-un Festival in Labo town in Camarines Norte province Saturday morning as a guest.

According to Robredo, despite Malacañang now adhering to the law on the issuance of warrant of arrest to Trillanes, she was still concerned about the amnesty revocation’s implication on the rule of law.

“Their adhering to the rule of law, we are thankful for that since we believe the essence democracy is the rule of law … For me, that is the right thing to do instead of pressing for a warrantless arrest that is actually baseless,” she said.

She added that the main is issue is not Trillanes but the implication of his case on the rule of law.

“The revocation of his amnesty is a huge implication on a lot of people who had also received amnesty themselves. It has a big implication on the peace process,” she added.
