Duterte meets Jordanian King Abdullah II
Amman — Jordanian King Abdullah II welcomed President Rodrigo Duterte at the Al Husseinieh Palace here on Thursday during the three-day official of the Philippine leader to the Hashemite Kingdom.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Duterte’s visit here “reaffirms and renews the Philippines’ ties with Jordan,” whose diplomatic relations were established in 1957.
The President and the King had a bilateral meeting to broaden “cooperation in key areas to advance shared aspirations for greater peace, progress and prosperity.”
The two leaders witnessed the signing of agreements on defense, foreign affairs, trade, and labor.
Duterte’s trip here is the first time a sitting Philippine President visited Jordan.
After his meeting with the King, the President is scheduled to attend a business forum at the Intercontinetal Hotel and deliver a speech to attract more investors to the Philippines.
The President is also scheduled to meet with the Filipino community here on Friday. Jordan is home to 48, 000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
He is expected to fly back to the Philippines on Friday night. /vvp
