Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano confirmed that an event where the party-list would launch candidates for the 2019 midterm elections has been canceled in the wake of the revocation of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s amnesty.

“I think we will have to cancel it considering the situation right now of Senator Trillanes, but definitely the Magdalo has always been participating in all elections in the past,” Alejano said in a forum on Wednesday.

“Even if we don’t have our own candidates, we support candidates in the national elections because we believe that we have the responsibility, we have to participate in the electoral exercises in the country,” he added.

On whether he would run for a senatorial seat in 2019, Alejano said that he has accepted the nomination.

“For me, I have been nominated by the group and I have accepted it,” he explained.

Proclamation No. 572 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on August 31 voided the amnesty given to Trillanes by former President Benigno S. Aquino III.

Copy of the presidential directive was released publicly through an ad placed in a broadsheet on Tuesday.  /kga
