2 men eyed in slay of TV actor in Cavite

Police have tagged as persons of interest the two men who were last seen leaving the house of a television actor two days before he was found dead in his house in Silang town, Cavite province, last week.

Supt. Resty Soriano, Silang police chief, said a security camera in Barangay Biga caught the two men leaving the house of Arnold Corpuz in the wee hours of August 27.

Corpuz, 38, a television talent who appeared in several shows, like the prime-time hit “Ang Probinsyano,” was found dead two days later, after a sibling forced open his house.

In a telephone interview, Soriano said the men “looked anxious” as they left Corpuz’s house.

“You’ll know if someone seemed to be looking over his shoulder. When they passed by the CCTV [closed-circuit television camera], one of them tried to conceal his face with the hood of his jacket,” he added.

Soriano declined to give details on the identities of these men but said pieces of evidence they had gathered showed that Corpuz was expecting visitors that night.

Another security camera also caught Corpuz buying liquor from a convenience store on the night of August 26.

Soriano said Corpuz died from nine stab wounds. Police recovered a pair of shears and a knife from the victim’s house.

“We believe there was a commotion [prior to the killing]. It could not have been done by a lone perpetrator,” he said. —MARICAR CINCO
