Police to arrest Trillanes as soon as court issues warrant – DILG exec

The police will arrest Senator Antonio Trillanes IV as soon as the Makati Regional Trial Court issues a warrant, an official of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said Tuesday.

“We are currently coordinating with the DOJ (Department of Justice) on this matter. They have already applied for the issuance of an alias warrant with the Makati Regional Trial Court,” DILG Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya said in a statement.

“In so far as the DILG-PNP (Philippine National Police) is concerned, we will serve a warrant of arrest as soon as the court issues it,” he also said.

Citing President Rodrigo Duterte’s Proclamation No. 572 issued on August 31, Malaya emphasized that the PNP and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) should “employ all lawful means to apprehend” Trillanes.

He also pointed out that the presidential directive commands the DOJ and AFP to “pursue all criminal and administrative cases” against the senator.

In issuing Proclamation No. 572, Duterte revoked the amnesty granted to Trillanes by President Benigno S. Aquino III in 2010. Aquino’s Proclamation No. 75 granted amnesty to soldiers involved in the 2003 Oakwood mutiny and the 2007 Manila Peninsula siege against then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Duterte’s proclamation said Trillanes’ amnesty was void from the start because he failed to file an application for amnesty and admit guilt, which is a requirement for the granting of reprieve.  /kga
