After the recent bombings in Sultan Kudarat, the Makati City Police has vowed to intensify its anti-crime operations, including target-hardening measures in the city’s central business district.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Makati police said personnel have been ordered to conduct constant checkpoint operations and increase police visibility.
“The checkpoint operations are also taking place randomly on a 24-hour basis in selected areas of potential targets. Additionally, police visibility operations especially in places of convergence are also being implemented to prevent any occurrence of crime and terrorist attacks,” the Makati police said.
“Considering that Makati City is the center of economy in the Philippines, the chief of police has reminded all operating units and police community precincts to secure vital installations in order to protect it in the event of any terrorist attack,” they added.
The Makati police also doubled its personnel deployment in areas with high populations during daytime and rush hours.
To ensure that deployed officers would not leave their posts, the Makati police said inspectors will be inspecting beat areas. Police officers assigned in the field are required to notify headquarters of their their activities on a real-time basis.
Two bombings rocked the city of Isulan, capital of Sultan Kudarat in less than a week, just as it was celebrating a local festival. At least four were killed and more than 40 were reported hurt. /muf
