Around P5 million worth of suspected “shabu” (crystal meth) weighing 802 grams were confiscated by the police in four separate anti-drug operations in Metro Manila and Bulacan, authorities said Friday.
Among the six arrested suspects in the separate drug busts were four minors, according to National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Guillermo Eleazar.
“Indeed, the syndicates are using minors in their operations, ‘yung sa distribution… Definitely may mga involve na sindikato ito,” he said in a press conference in Caloocan City.
(Indeed, the syndicates are using minors in their operations in terms of distribution. Definitely there is a syndicate involved here.)
Eleazar said drug syndicates are using minors as couriers of illegal drugs as they cannot be jailed according to law.
“Kasi nga they take advantage of the vulnerability of these minors being minors and wala silang criminal liability,” he said.
(It’s because they take advantage of the vulnerability of these minors and they don’t have criminal liability.)
Eleazar also lamented that the government’s war on drugs is being “frustrated” by these syndicated who use minors as couriers.
“‘Yun yung parang nakaka-frustrate in our job dahil nagagamit itong mga batang ito (That;s what is frustrating in our job because these children are being used in the drug trade.),” he said. /muf
