/ 05:00 AM August 24, 2018

A former barangay kagawad in Manila was killed while his girlfriend was wounded by a still-unidentified gunman in Sta. Cruz on Wednesday.

Police said the victim, Julio Turla of Barangay 314, was shot at close range by the assailant, who approached the couple on motorcycle around 3 p.m. on Lope De Vega Street. The 54-year-old victim died on the spot after being hit in the head and chest.

The Manila Police District said Turla was then with his girlfriend, Agapita Mendrez, who sustained a leg wound because of a bullet ricochet

Turla earlier served as a village councilor and was employed as a barangay secretary at the time of his death. —Aie Balagtas See
