Motorist in hit-and-run incident in Manila nabbed at Naia

The Manila Police District (MPD) is now preparing charges against the motorist involved in a hit-and-run incident along Roxas Boulevard on Monday that resulted in the death of a freshman college student.

The suspect, identified by authorities as Victor Wai Ki Kung, was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 2, after he allegedly hit and killed Jeremiah Erwin Tan, 17, a freshman student at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) College of Business and Government Management.

According to the Manila police, the victim was crossing a portion of Roxas Boulevard along Pedro Gil when a speeding car with license plate TQR-245 hit him.

Tan landed hard on the road pavement, but the suspect reportedly did not alight from his vehicle and immediately left without rendering assistance to the victim. Two other minors were also reportedly injured in the incident .Tan later died due to injuries.

Records from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) showed that the vehicle belongs to an insurance firm based in Malanday, Valenzuela.

The company later said the car was issued to Kung, who was set to leave for Hong Kong Monday afternoon. Authorities rushed to the Naia Terminal 2 where they arrested the suspect.

In a statement posted on its Facebook Page, PLM’s College of Business and Government Management condoled with the family of the 17-year-old student.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with you. You may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. Rest in peace, Jeremiah,” it said. /ee
