BACOLOD CITY — A village chief tagged as a suspect in a shooting incident almost two months ago was shot dead around 10 a.m. on Monday in Barangay Cabcab, Isabela, Negros Occidental.

The victim was identified by the police as Rhoy Pagapang, chairman of Barangay Libas in Isabela town

Senior Randy Babor, Isabela acting police chief, said Pagapang was on his way to Barangay Cabcab in Isabela when he was shot dead by four unidentified persons, wearing bonnets.

Pagapang succumbed to a gunshot wound in the head. Recovered from the scene of incident were several empty shells of still unidentified firearms.

Almost two months ago, Pagapang was locked up in jail after he was implicated in the attempt on the life of Joemy Gelacio and his wife, Janet, in Barangay Libas.

Pagapang was also charged at the Sangguniang Bayan of Isabela for alleged grave misconduct in office and gross negligence based on allegations that he sold a property of Barangay Libas, which is registered the name of the Libas Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative.

Last week, a former village chairman, Agapito Euroba, was also shot dead reportedly by New People’s Army rebels in Barangay San Agustin, Isabela. /ee
