Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde confirmed that police are looking at drug-related issues in investigating the killing of a Chinese national along Taft Avenue, Manila.
“It could be a drug war (between syndicates), it turned out na itong dalawang Chinese na ito are allegedly involved in drug peddling, big time,” Albayalde said in a press briefing on Monday.
“So we’re looking into that possibility na parang drug war ito,” he added.
On Friday, a certain Yan Yi Shou, 35, and Wu Huai Hong, 30 were gunned down by men riding-in-tandem near the Araullo High School.
However, Albayalde did not confirm whether the slain Yan is the former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) asset and interpreter who goes by the name Yan Yi Shou.
In 2016, Yan was caught with PDEA-Special Enforcement Service head Lt. Col. Ferdinand Marcelino in a ‘clandestine’ shabu laboratory in Sta. Cruz, Manila.
Marcelino claimed to be an undercover operative of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission and a member of “Oplan Moses”, an operation with the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
In May 2017, the Department of Justice dropped the drug cases against the two suspects. /vvp
