Magnitude 5.0 quake hits Compostela Valley

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake jolted Compostela Valley on Sunday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In an updated report, the Phivolcs said that the tremor hit 13 kilometers northeast of Compostela, Compostela Valley at 8:28 a.m.

No reported intensities were recorded as of this writing.

Despite the high magnitude level, Phivolcs said that no damage and aftershocks could be expected from the earthquake.

The quake had a depth of 207 kilometers and was of tectonic origin. /je
