IBP to file habeas corpus for release of detained Makati bar lawyers

/ 02:38 PM August 17, 2018

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) on Friday announced that it will be filing a habeas corpus petition for the release of lawyers who were detained by police for allegedly interfering in the implementation of a search warrant at a raided bar in Makati.

“We are joining Attys. Romulo Alarkon, Jan Vincent Soliven and Lenie Rocha in the preparation and filing of a habeas corpus petition in the face of their highly questionable arrest and detention in the course of defending a client,” IBP National President Abdiel Dan Elijah Fajardo said in a statement.

Habeas corpus is a legal recourse that can be used to report and secure the release of a person who is being unlawfully detained.

The lawyers allegedly interfered with police who searched the Times Bar in Makati on suspicion that illegal party drugs are being sold there.  /muf
