At least 14,768 persons and 3,321 families who were affected by flooding in Marikina City have been evacuated as of Tuesday morning by the city government, a report from the city police said.
The Malanday Elementary School has the most number of evacuees, with at least 3,920 individuals and 1,002 families rescued.
The city has suffered from heavy rain enhanced by the “habagat” or the southwest monsoon with the alert level of the Marikina River being raised to third alarm on Sunday after the water level rose to 20.6 meters.

The alert level has been lowered after the water level receded to 14.3 meters as of 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the Marikina City Public Information Office.
Forced evacuation is done by the city government once the alert level at the Marikina River reaches third alarm.
Meanwhile, classes in Marikina City remain suspended as most schools are still being used as evacuation areas.
Relief and rehabilitation operations in Marikina are still being conducted by the city government. /muf
