Four people dead after floods; 6,000 families still in Metro evacuation centers
At least four individuals have died due to the flooding and torrential rains that Metro Manila experienced over the weekend, a report from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Monday.
One of the fatalities was from Marikina while the three others were from Quezon City, according to the Eastern Police District (EPD) and the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).
Despite a fairly better weather on Monday, 6,117 families or 25,238 individuals are still staying in different evacuation centers in Metro Manila, as per NCRPO. The bulk of evacuees are from the EPD, where 5,201 families or 22,164 persons are staying in evacuation sites, most of whom are in Marikina and Pasig.
Marikina has been placed under the state of calamity as flood waters reached residential areas due to the overflowing Marikina river.
Reports from the QCPD said that 1,796 residents are spread across 15 evacuation centers in the city. In the flood-prone Camanava area, the Northern Police District said that 678 persons are in seven evacuation centers.
On the other hand, 230 families or 600 individuals are staying in the Baseco Covered Court in Manila.
