DID YOU KNOW: Mock Battle of Manila

On Aug. 13, 1898, the “Mock Battle of Manila” was fought after US Commodore George Dewey negotiated with Spanish Governor General Fermin Jaudenes to force the Spanish Army inside Intramuros to surrender.

A staged battle to satisfy the demands of the Spanish side took place at Fort San Antonio Abad and the Americans captured the Walled City.

Filipino forces were excluded from the battle and the terms of capitulation of Manila were signed by the United States and Spain.
