AROUND 400 runners will answer this morning’s starting gun for the first-ever Body Tone: Run For Life 2011 at the Body Tone Fitness Club along Gorordo Avenue, this city.
Chino Chy, the fitness club’s Chief Executive Officer disclosed the actual the number of participants in a talk with Cebu Daily News yesterday.
With another running event also scheduled today, Chy said he expects fewer runners to participate in their race which starts at 6 a.m. In fact, he said they failed to meet their target of drawing at least 800 runners based on the official number of registrants as of yesterday.
However, Chy and his team will still accept walk-in registrants today. Chy tapped the Sugbo Road Runners Club (SRRC) headed by president Blas Hipulan to handle the event’s technical concerns.
Chy also assured that the cash prizes earlier announced for the winners are already funded and ensured.
The 10-kilometer champion both male and female will bring home P3,000 each while second placers will receive P2,000. P1,000 meanwhile, will go to the third placers.
Fourth to fifth place finishers will receive P500 while gift certificates and medals are also up for grabs.
Aside from premier 10k category, shorter distances like 5k and 3k are also being featured for beginners.
Water stations are available every 2.5k in the route.
Special awards like the best in costume, youngest and oldest runners will also be handed out as well as a special award for the runner who will run barefoot.
Chy also bared plans to make the running event an annual affair as part of Body Tone’s venture into sports particularly running.
