Early goals allowed Mandaue Technical Institute (MTI) and Masbate’s Aroroy Football Club (FC) to clinch the title in their respective divisions of the Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC) 11th National Interclub Football Cup yesterday at the San Roque football field in Mandaue.
MTI edged Abellana National School (ANS) Pomeroy, 1-0, for the boys 14-Under title.
Mark Joseph Felicilda’s goal in the fifth minute was unanswered with ANS’ attempts repeatedly hitting the post.
Despite allowing a goal in the finals, ANS’ goalkeeper Patrick Polistico was awarded as the best goalkeeper in the division.
Named best midfielder was ANS’ Mark Joseph Aranguez; best defender was Clint Ligan of MTI while most valuable player (MVP) honors went to Felicilda. The golden boot award went to Jhon Dexter Espiritu of MTI.
Aroroy FC, on the other hand, scored a goal at the 2nd minute to win the girls 17 title against University of San Carlos-Technological Center (USC-TC).
Trisha Azul caught USC-TC’s goalkeeper by surprise with her goal just minutes after the start of the game.
In the players 10, the title went to Ateneo de Cebu (AdC), which blanked San Roque Royal United (SRRU) at the Springdale football field in Lahug.
In the boys 12 contest, San Carlos City’s Los Amigos FC sneaked in a goal against Springdale, 1-0, for the title.
Arranging a titular match in the boys 17-Under title were ANS Pomeroy and USC-TC.
ANS outsmarted Ormoc FC, 4-1, to advance to the finals while USC-TC survived a penalty shootout against Manila Soccer Academy, 8-7. The regulation match ended at 2-all.
Prior to the boys 17-Under contest, the 40 above title will be contested between Hiroshi and San Roque/Count FC at the San Roque field.
Hiroshi edged WealthBank Queen City United (QCU) B, 2-1, to grab the finals ticket while San Roque/Count FC frustrated Wealthbank QCU-A, 1-0, to barge into the finals.
In the men’s open, Hiroshi will have to wait for the continuation of the penalty shootout between Waterfresh QCU and USC-TC to know whom they will be facing for the title.

The semifinals between Waterfresh QCU and USC-TC went into a stalemate when the regulation ended at 1-all.
The score had remained unchanged in the extension forcing a sudden death. However, a penalty shootout had to be scheduled today due to lack of light after the sudden death also ended at 5-all.
Meanwhile, the Azkals will be today’s special guests in the tournament’s awarding ceremony at the USC-TC football field.
