Kiko on politics and love life: ‘Hindi ako outside the kulambo’

Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan said he and wife, Megastar Sharon Cuneta, may not always agree on politics but at least he said: “Hindi ako outside the kulambo (I’m not [sleeping] outside the mosquito net).”

On Thursday, Pangilinan talked lengthily about his family and politics, particularly his wife’s friendship with Presidential Daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

The phrase “outside the kulambo” is a slang for someone who had been ordered by his wife not to sleep beside her on the bed because he has offended her on something.

Cuneta’s brother, Cesar “Chet” Cuneta, has also decided to run for mayor of Pasay next year under the administration’s ticket.

Despite his wife and brother-in-law’s connection with the administration, Pangilinan noted that he continues to be critical of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration.

“I’d like to think I have continued to be critical of this administration and I have spoken freely and openly on issues that I feel hindi tama [is right]. So, sabi ko nga tuloy ang ating trabaho sa opposition [So, as I said, my work as an opposition continues],” he said.

Pangilinan is president of the Liberal Party and member of the opposition bloc in the Senate.

“Kinikilala natin, as far as my brother-in-law is concerned, that we have political differences. I disagree of course with his political leanings but I will I respect it.”

As long as there is respect and understanding, the senator saw no reason why their political differences would affect their family.

Pangilinann noted that he has been married with the megastar for 22 years and has been in politics for two decades also.

He said he and his wife talk about politics at home and admitted that they sometimes disagree on certain issues.

Do they fight about politics?

“Hindi ako outside the kulambo [I’m not outside the mosquito net],” Pangilinan quickly said.

“But yung suporta nya sa akin, walang duda yun, bilang asawa [But her support as a wife for me, there’s no doubt there],” he added. /jpv
