A man was killed while his companion claimed to be his son was arrested in an alleged encounter with policemen manning a checkpoint in Pasay City Wednesday night.
Police identified the slain suspect as Edgardo Samson Lopena, while his wounded companion was Mark Vincent Ocampo.
Although bearing different surnames, both suspects were father and son as claimed by investigators in a police report.
Report on Thursday added that the shootout happened when Pasay policemen were conducting “Oplan Sita” to go after people suspected of carrying illegal firearms along F. De Guzman Street in Malibay.
Lopena allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at two policemen when he was requested to surrender his firearm. Ocampo, on the other hand, allegedly tried to grab the firearm of one of the officers.
Lopena was able to shot PO3 Tina Villanueva in the shoulder and knee while PO1 Arman Canasares was hit in the hip.
Both suspects were wounded during the melee but Lopena managed to flee the scene. Follow-up operation to track down Lopena led to another shootout where he was killed.
Recovered from the scene were seven sachets of suspected shabu and a grenade.
The injured policemen were rushed to San Juan De Dios Hospital and are now in stable condition, while Ocampo was brought to the Pasay General Hospital. /jpv
