Flooding in Zamboanga City submerges at least 100 houses

ZAMBOANGA CITY — More than 100 houses in Sitio Caputatan, Barangay Putik have become submerged in water due to a continuous heavy downpour.

Elmeir Apolinario, the city disaster risk reduction management officer, said rising water of the Caputatan River had flooded surrounding atras at Caputatan and Marcos Drive by 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

“There was no actual evacuation yet because the water has started to subside,” Apolinario said. “But there is need to repair the riprap along Marcos Drive and at Gutierrez [Drive] because some portions have given in,” Apolinario said.

The dam of the Zamboanga City Water District has also overflowed, its water level exceeding the normal volume of 74 as of 3:45 p.m.

Four houses are affected in Purok 6, Sitio Spillway in Barangay Lunzuran, which is adjacent ot Putik. /atm
