DAGUPAN CITY — A drug suspect was killed on Sunday after he fired twice at an undercover policeman during a Candon City drug bust at 9 a.m.
Leonardo Portela, a resident of Sta. Lucia town, reportedly realized he was the target of a police operation and shot the policeman posing as a buyer, who survived only because he was wearing a bullet-proof vest under his clothes.
Members of the Ilocos Sur police shot back, said Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, Ilocos regional police director.
Portela was declared dead on arrival when he was brought to the nearest hospital. /je
