The weather bureau is monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA) east of the country, it said in its morning bulletin.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the LPA was 1,335 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan, as of 3 a.m. Sunday.

It said the LPA would enhance the southwest monsoon as it continues to bring scattered rain and thunderstorms over the Mimaropa and Western Visayan Regions.

The regions of Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol and the rest of the Visayas will also have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain or thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.

Pagasa warned residents of affected areas to take extra caution due to possible flooding and landslides brought by moderate to at times heavy thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers will be experienced over Mindanao, Northern and Central Luzon but due to localized thunderstorms.

Flashfloods and landslides may also occur in the said portions of the country, Pagasa said.

Pagasa also reported that tropical storm “Shanshan” (international name) was spotted at 2,705 kms east of extreme northern Luzon, outside the Philippine area of responsibility.

It was packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 145 kph. It is moving northwest at 20 kph. /cbb
