A doctor and his live-in partner were arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted by elements of the San Juan Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) at Brgy. West Crame, San Juan City on Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities said Dr. Amante Ramos, 59, and his partner Venus Angeles, 36, were arrested during the police operation around 2:15 p.m. along 1st West Crame Corner Santolan.
Police noted that the surgeon, who works in a private hospital in Tuguegerao, Isabela City, and his live-in partner were apprehended after a week-long surveillance and a tip from an informant that the physician was the supplier of illegal drugs in their barangay.
The informant, identified by SDEU Police Insp. Edwin Malabanan as a former surrenderee under “Oplan Tokhang,” transacted with the physician to buy illegal drugs and agreed to meet along 1st West Crame.
Aside from a sachet of illegal drugs, estimated to be worth P500, that the couple handed out to the buyer, the police confiscated another sachet of suspected illegal drug from the woman.
Ramos admitted he was involved in illegal drugs and only returned to practicing his profession in 2018 after five years.
He lived in Marikina City after his wife who is also a medical doctor (radiologist) left him due to his involvement in illegal drug activities.
The physician and his live-in partner are now detained at the San Juan Police detention cell. The suspects will be facing charges of violation of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 before the court. /jpv
